Last weekend I was listening to the radio while cleaning my office and heard a show that was featuring a Portland restaurant, The Radio Room. While on-air they were discussing their menu and I was pretty shocked to hear of all of their wheat free and gluten free menu items. We are going there for the first time this weekend.
As I recall, they had a fabulous sounding polenta, dusted with corn flour and served with a fire roasted paprika sauce. They also mentioned both chicken wings and calamari that are very lightly breaded in a rice and corn flour mixture. More surprising than the fact that they actually have wheat free items was that they did not advertise it as wheat free. I have since called and it's very much BOTH wheat and gluten free. They should plug that -- sounds like a pretty rad place.
Anyway, The Radio Room is in NE Portland and sounds fun. It's so difficult to find restaurants that offer anything other than a plain ol' chicken breast and veggies for our gluten intolerant little guy so we're very excited to try their wings (and polenta!!). The boys will likely indulge in the kalamari too -- I'll pass on that one though. :)
